Covering up a pesky pimple is a challenge most women deal with. For some it’s a random blemish from time to time, and for others, it’s an ongoing battle. Regardless
of the frequency, below are critical tips to manage problem areas. Whether it’s picture day, wedding day, or just a night out with friends, feeling confident will
make all the difference.
Choose the right color
Choosing the right concealer and foundation color is the most important step to mastering the coverage. It’s best to seek a professional’s opinion before making a final purchase. As a rule of thumb, peach colors tend to be best for fair skin. Apricot based colors tend to be best for darker skin. Even if you don’t choose to make an appointment with a professional, visit a local makeup corner where you can try many options to find the one that works best. The coverage color should give a flawless finish, with little differentiation from the natural skin.
Dab, don’t rub
This is a crucial aspect to healthy coverage. It’s best to use a sponge or kabuki brush when applying product for coverage as it has the densest application. Powder products will have the highest level of coverage, whether that is a mineral powder or standard powder is based on personal preference. In addition, pressed mineral powder tends to give more coverage then loose mineral powder. To apply, put product on the sponge, and dab the sponge over problem areas. Again, make sure to dab, not rub, as rubbing can spread bacteria and also lose some of the coverage.
Take care of the skin
Covering pimples can be a great short-term fix for a specific area. However, it is not a long-term solution. Skin care is an important part of the overall process. Ensure makeup is removed every night; it’s best to also use a makeup remover to eliminate residue around the eyes. Keeping makeup on over night can harbor bacteria and increase the problem. To treat flared skin, use a hot compress on pimples to help dissolve the inflammation inside. It’s best to leave the hot compress on for 2-5 minutes. From there, use cold water to wash the rest of the face to help close pores for optimal coverage.
After a solid cleanse, it’s important to use a toner, which will balance the pH levels in the skin. Once the face is cleansed and toned, use a moisturizer for your skin type. Make sure it doesn’t contribute to oil, but instead gives an appropriately hydrates the skin. This will eliminate dryness or flakiness that can happen when overusing a product.
